 3. Next Week - Sticking with School

3.1 At SMP Negeri 1

I had a week to go to school to observe Pancasila Education classes. Here I was supported wholeheartedly by the teachers, in which Ms. Kres was always there to help and teach me.

In addition, the specialized teachers always care and guide us in teaching methods, strategies, and lesson plans. They create a comfortable and joyful atmosphere in their classes.

During the observation, I noticed:

- Regarding teaching methods:

Teachers always put students at the center of the learning process.

Teachers suggest knowledge, from which students explore and access knowledge through group exercises, suggestive questions, and searching for information data on the Internet.

During the learning process, students are very active, proactive and self-conscious in seeking knowledge and expressing opinions. Finally, the teacher will comment and convey important content.

Teachers use a combination of methods: Visual, question and answer, presentation, group work, debate,... students learn actively.

- Equipment and teaching aids:
Students learn based on data from the Pancasila Education textbook; in addition, students can search for more lesson information from the QR code corresponding to the content in the book.
For individual questions, group exercises, students are allowed to use mobile phones to support the learning process.
In some lessons, teachers will prepare projectors to change the atmosphere and create comfort for students.

All rooms are equipped with lights, fans, boards, pens, etc., serving the teaching and learning process well.

- Study time:
Students study Pancasila Education for about 2 periods/week. Each period lasts 40 minutes, meeting the tasks and requirements for a lesson.
Lesson Plan:
Here, we are guided by specialized teachers and see lesson plans for reference. Everything is prepared very carefully and presented.

This is our lesson plan:

My teaching process:

On the first day of the demo, I was very nervous and received encouragement and cheers from the teachers.
However, the lesson did not go as expected.
Because my method and way of giving exercises were too difficult for students to access, the presentation was a bit confusing, my language skills and body language were not good, so I could not convey knowledge to students in the best way.
The students listened, but because of the difference and limitation of language, they did not understand me and vice versa.
I was very sad about it, and I tried to change it.
I improved and edited everything, from the way, method, means, presentation, language ability,... I hope to be better in the next attempt.

And in the next lesson, things were much better. Besides, I had the support of Buddy - Amy for translation, she helped me convey information from English to Indonesian to the students.

That lesson was very fun and interesting, the students all understood our lesson. Ms. Rasni encouraged us a lot, she praised our efforts and good progress.

I cried at that time, when I looked into her eyes, I saw absolute trust, expectation and good wishes for us. I was very happy because I had improved a lot compared to the previous lesson.

On the final review day, I thought everything went smoothly.
I will always remember the feelings in this place. Remember Kendari, remember SMP Negeri 1, remember the teachers who always love and help us, remember the lovely and obedient students.💛

 2. Kendari - From the early days

2.1 First time

We had two flights to reach Kendari, where we would be interning.

On the first day upon arriving in Kendari, I received warm support from Mrs. Waode and met three new intern students from the Philippines, along with some buddies from Halu Oleo University.

After resting, we went to Halu Oleo University in the afternoon to participate in the welcoming ceremony for the Sea Teacher program.

We were greeted by friendly and welcoming looks from the teachers and students, who were all happy to welcome us. That day, I had the opportunity to meet the department leaders and faculty, hear specific information about the Sea Teacher schedule, and introduce and share about myself.

I was very happy to wear the traditional Ao dai representing Vietnam to introduce and promote the image of Vietnamese people to international friends.

It was the first time I felt emotional wearing this traditional outfit. That day marked our first meeting and introduction to this beloved new environment—Indonesia!

When I set foot here, I felt close and familiar, because the scenery and people here did not seem strange to me. I quickly integrated and was satisfied with this new environment.

I got to know SMP secondary school where I would do my internship, for the first time with confusion and joy in the new educational environment.

The children took us on a tour around the school and introduced us to the classrooms, facilities and equipment. We chatted, learned and shared cultural experiences with them.

ABOUT THE SOUTHEAST ASIAN TEACHER PROGRAM

The Southeast Asian Teacher Program, or Southeast Asian Teacher Education Program, is an important initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of teacher training in the Southeast Asian region. Designed to promote cooperation among member countries, this program not only provides opportunities for student-teachers to gain teaching experience at partner universities but also contributes to the sustainable development of the education system in the region.

One of the highlights of the program is facilitating student mobility between countries, allowing student-teachers to broaden their teaching knowledge and skills. Through these practical experiences, students are exposed to different cultures, gaining a better understanding of diverse educational methods and applying the insights they gain into their own teaching practices.

The program also focuses on developing modern curricula and innovative teaching methods that meet the needs of each country in the region. This not only enhances students' professional competencies but also helps instructors update the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the demands of contemporary education.

Additionally, SEA Teacher encourages collaboration among universities, educational agencies, and governments in the region, creating a strong support network. These connections facilitate resource sharing and promote research and development in the field of education.

In summary, the Southeast Asian Teacher Program aims not only to enhance the quality of education but also to build a robust community of teachers capable of adapting to the challenges and opportunities of modern education. This program is truly a significant step forward in strengthening education across Southeast Asia.
